Dr Qian Xu qualified as a doctor in 2008 from the University of Southampton, and after the foundation training and some surgical training, Dr Qian decided to leave surgical training to specialise in facial aesthetics in 2012. She worked as an A&E doctor alongside building her aesthetics practice, and developed a keen interest in emergency medicine.
As an emergency medicine doctor, Dr Qian was on the front lines of St Helier Hospital A&E, working through the covid pandemic. Now, she remains working there part time and has taken on an additional leadership role, developing and improving the training and support given to overseas doctors.
Outside of the hospital, Dr Qian is a well-established aesthetics doctor and a well-respected medical aesthetics trainer, having been one of the lead trainers at Harley Academy. Dr Xu now sits on the Medical Advisory Board for the CCR annual conference, bringing together surgical and non-surgical medical aesthetics practitioners to learn best practice.
As well as having had her own practice on Harley Street and now High Street Kensington, she is also the Clinical Lead for Ai Beauty Clinic, a well-established, CQC registered medical aesthetics clinic on Oxford Street, which specialises in treating Asian and oriental skin.
‘I was a doctor first before becoming an aesthetics doctor, so I always take a medical approach in my aesthetics work. For me, it was never about the big lips and high cheek bones. It was about giving my clients skin that they felt comfortable in. Seeing my clients smile with confidence is why I do what I do.’
